Wealth-Lab 101: Stock Market Data – feed, live updates, yahoo, S & P, Dow Jones, NASDAQ, Fidelity

In this just getting started lesson
we’ll learn how to acquire and update data in Wealth-Lab to later use in
charts and back tests. Within the data panel the dataset tree contains a list of
data sets that have been set up with one or more installed data providers like fidelity investments, yahoo finance, ascii data, or dozens of other integrated data
providers. Several datasets are pre-installed
like the dow thirty and the S & P 100 components, and also the Wealth-Lab
100 which is our own subset of S & P 500 stocks. Click the plus sign to unfold the list
of symbols contained in the dataset. Left clicking a symbol selects it, right-clicking allows you to perform
various dataset editing functions that can also be accomplished in
Wealth-Lab’s data manager. Datasets are just lists of symbols so the first thing to do after
installing Wealth-Lab is to download the data from the provider of those
datasets. You can do this one of three ways: by requesting data on demand, by doing an update on individual
datasets, or by performing a provider update. Because of delays involved in requesting
and receiving data one symbol at a time use data on demand when reviewing
just a few charts when you’re not concerned with speed. You can access and update data on
demand in charts for symbols that are in datasets, or even when not included in the dataset. Dataset updates and provider updates our
options in the data manager. To update the symbols in just one
dataset… …choose the dataset and click update dataset or update
dataset pricing. To update data for all symbols and
datasets for data provider go to the update data view select one or
more of the providers and click update all data for selective providers. A provider update can be scheduled to
occur automatically at a specified time. We’ll talk more about the features of
the data manager in another segment. now that you have some data go ahead and click through some
charts. Thanks for coming!
