Sri Lanka bombings: Wealthy terrorist brothers who killed hotel guests pictured – News BL

These are the first pictures of the Sri Lanka bomber brothers who detonated suicide vests in two hotels where eight Britons were killed. Inshaf and Ilham Ibrahim strolled into the Shangri-La and Cinnamon Grand hotels and blew themselves up as guests were eating breakfast. The wealthy brothers’ attacks killed 41 people who were staying at the hotels, many of whom were enjoying breakfast in the dining rooms at the time. As police raided their mansion in an exclusive and wealthy part of Colombo hours later, Ilham’s pregnant wife Fatima also detonated a bomb, killing herself, her three children and three officers. Ilham and an accomplice were seen on CCTV taking a lift to the five-star Shangri-La hotel restaurant before detonating their vests. They appear to discuss plans before the horror attack at the Table One eatery. Inshaf blew himself up at the Cinnamon Grand during the wave of attacks. Another of the Sri Lanka attack bombers who studied in Britain has been named as Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed. He is believed to have studied in the southeast of England at some point between 2006 and 2007. Later it is understood he did a postgraduate course in Australia, before returning to settle in Sri Lanka. Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed was one of nine who carried out a series of blasts targeting churches and hotels in the country. The bombs killed 359 people – including eight Britons – and injured more than 500. Ruwan Wijewardene, Deputy defence minister in Sri Lanka said during a news conference that all nine of the bombers were well educated and from wealthy families. Wijewardene said: “We believe that one of the suicide bombers studied in the UK and later did his postgraduate studies in Australia.”
